Hostage starts off as a great movie. It shows promise as an interesting character development movie as we watch Willis, or rather the "character" he's playing as he's put through a gut-wrenching series of disappointments only to end up finding out just what sort of torture he'll suffer to get his family back.

Then about three quarters of the way through the movie, it takes a sharp right turn. There's a sub plot involving classic evil men, and it turns into a pretty standard fare action movie. Not a bad movie by any means, but I was a bit bewildered by the complete lack of payoff with all the character development that's set up early in the movie. If you can keep yourself from taking this movie too seriously, it's a fun flick.
