Like you would expect, it turns out the one most in need of his services is the date doctor himself. And, in true Hollywood fashion, the movie follows his adventures and hilarity ensues.

Despite its formulaic plot, the movie is funny. Will Smith makes it fun to watch, and the characters are just deep enough that you have some empathy for them. It's by no means the best movie ever made, but it's rather enjoyable.
