It's nearly impossible to judge this film on its own. It has the by now classic original trilogy to live up to, and it would really have to work to be any worse than the first two of the prequel trilogy.

It does come off as a good movie, mostly. For a movie that's plot should be so obviously a bridge between two movies we've already seen, it seems to leave quite a bit out. Some of the elements that aren't mentioned are only explained in the Star Wars: Clone Wars anime series that aired between the two movies. That grip aside, the plot is mostly coherent, if only because it's mostly battle sequences. The bit of dialogue that's in this movie is just as bad as the previous movies, but somehow it's toned down so it doesn't drag the movie down with it.

In the end it was an enjoyable movie that somewhat redeemed the original trilogy, but still had too many flaws to live up to the standard that one feels Star Wars movies should.
