This is really a fantasy book the way a fantasy book should be. In it Magic and Dragons are very real, and the people have a rich history that's an integral part of their lives. The book itself is a wonderful read too. In my experience, many fantasy books, even good ones, either present characters not fully fleshed out in the fantasy universe, or end up feeling in large part like history books.

The Earthsea book starts off very differently. We're presented with a boy's coming of age story and all of the characters he encounters are interesting and the history of the world is told to us in bits and pieces as he learns it. The plot is simple enough, basically the story of Ged's quest to correct a mistake he made by unleashing an evil create into the world. It doesn't get bogged down in fantasy elements, but rather focuses on the human aspect of all the characters. It's very approachable and enjoyable.
