on April 5, 2005This isn't really your standard fare for a sports movie. There's a lot of sports in it, for sure, but it's more about the people. It is to high school football in Texas what Seabiscuit was to horse racing.
It's a really fascinating look at the people behind the football craze down there. I never could quite convey what high school football was growing up to people who didn't live in Texas. This movie does a great job of it.
That said it's a good movie full of interesting characters, all of whom happen to be based on real folks, very well acted. Even if you don't want the Texas cultural lesson, I recommend watching it.
