A long time before I saw this movie, I remember listening to a news report on the real life individual this movie is based on. Because I didn't remember much more about the interview than what I wrote in the first sentence, I expected the movie to be based on a real life story. It's not. There really was a guy stuck in limbo that this movie is loosely based on. It's very loosely based on this guy though.

This movie is pretty much a story unto itself. It's a nice all fuzzy feeling movie about a guy fighting the illogical system. Silliness ensues. The story itself goes overboard a bit, but Tom Hanks really shines through in his performance. If you can treat it as a story, and distance yourself from the unreality of it all, it's a great movie. Otherwise, pass on it, as you'll be throwing popcorn at the screen by the time Hank's character makes a fountain in his spare time.
