Scott's Review:
2 out of 5 stars on April 6, 2004

This movie is first and foremost an exploration of the human experience. While there's a science fiction element to the movie, I don't feel it's should be classified as a sci-fi movie. It's more of a human drama.

The movie is very slowly paced. The beginning, especially, feels a lot like 2001. We're treated to long sequences of space flight. Beyond that though, the whole science-fiction aspect takes a back seat. The fictional elements that the characters have to confront have no real science behind it that I could feel. The movie continues it's slow pace as we watch a few characters fall into insanity for reasons that are barely explained.

The movie doesn't really explain what happened, and barely concerns itself with why the characters react the way they did. We're only given any insight to the main character, which is frustrating, because you have this feeling that you're missing the story on the other characters.

It's a moderately good flick, and it will probably make you think about life and death. Then again, it might also make you think about sleep, as you nod off at one of the extended scenes that try too hard to wrench an emotion out of you.
