2 out of 5 stars on March 8, 2004

A wannabe rock star that needs money to pay his next rent check stumbles into being a teacher at a school. He then does the only logical thing, and turns his class into a rock group to win the battle of the bands.

All right, given the basic plot outline going in, I suspected I wouldn't get half the jokes and be left with a silly comedy. Unfortunately, I was left with a pretty unfunny film. I can't tell you if there were a lot of inside rock-and-roll jokes that flew over my head, I can just tell you that kidnapping, impersonation, and general lack of talent can be overcome and rendered unimportant if you start a rock band.

Sure there were some funny bits, but in the end I felt like I was watching a movie that couldn't decide which formula to follow: The touching underdog story or the always funny bum turns his life around story. The end result was a movie that I couldn't wait for the ending.
