I'll be the first to admit, I must just not get this film. It's beautiful, it's well acted, and the story is deep, and tied to America's very history. That said, it's boring. If it wasn't for my DVD's player ability to play a movie at 1.4 times normal speed, I doubt I would have made it through the entire movie.

Some of the scenes of America's brutality, in many different forms, to the immigrants who came to her looking for a new life were touching. Aside from that, the movie really didn't keep me that interested. Leonardo DiCaprio's character seemed way too flat and steamed along his path, not out of a great feeling of need, but more out of a feeling to progress the plot. And of course, since this is a Martin Scorsese movie, almost every scene is longer than it needs to be to drive some point home. It's always a bad sign when I can watch a movie at 1.4 times speed, and actually still feel like it's too slowly paced.

All in all, mildly interesting for the historical elements, but since I would guess those are being butchered, it's probably not worth the two hours forty-five minutes runtime.
