I'm not a horse racing fan, and one of my fears going into the movie was that I wouldn't be able to properly enjoy it since I don't follow the sport. That wasn't really an issue with the movie. The horse races were well done, and each one in the movie was distinct enough from the other that I wasn't finding myself bored with the races themselves. While I have no doubt they exaggerate some of the elements in the races so the people like me could follow them, the races were never so simplified and brainless that I found them unrealistic.

And finally, if you watch this movie for no other reason, it has to be to just enjoy the visuals. This is by far one of the most visually beautiful movies I've seen in quite a while. Any scene that takes place outdoors is a joy to look at and enjoy the outdoor splendor.

In the end, the movie didn't exactly bring me to tears, but it did manage to stir a few emotions in this cynic. I highly recommend it, and I now look forward to reading the book it's based on to see how it compares.
