Either rightly or wrongly, to me Jim Carrey has a certain connation of bad taste, over-the-top comedy. Given the basic premise of Bruce Almighty, I was really apprehensive to watch it. The thought of Carrey with omnipotent powers wasn't a particularly thrilling thought to me. I assumed it would be used as an excuse to let Carrey go wild, and add some special effects on the top of it.

Having watching the movie, I can happily say my worries were groundless. There was some of the over-the-top comedy Carrey is famous for, but by Dumb & Dumber standards, it really wasn't present. The movie is really good solid story about a man who's wondering about his place in life, and how religion is influencing it, or not touching it all. That said, the movie never got too preachy, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

People that hate Dogma because of it's butchery of religious ideals should probably steer clear, but people that can disassociate Hollywood's view of religion from the real world will probably enjoy it.
