Nicholas Cage is a lucky man who's offered a "glimpse" of what his life could be like had he made a different choice once upon a time. Instead of getting on the plane to his new life as a business man, he gets to see what it would be like if he stayed with his love to raise a family.

After we get over the first few bumps of taking a character and watching him flounder, it gets mildly interesting. Cage did a good job acting out the part, and the chemistry between Cage and Tea Leoni was superb.

Spoilers Ahead:

That said, this twist on "It's a Wonderful Life" really falls apart. There's never a clear cut message that the "glimpsed" life is better, or that his real life is better. And the movie ends on a bizarre note. The plot ends almost in desperation, like the writers had walled themselves in. Cage's character finally realizes he can have his cake and eat it too, and starts to rekindle his relationship, all without really losing his present life. I suspect the script was trying to suggest that he would lose some of the perks that his job brought him, but they never made that clear. All he had to do was be willing to scrub, or at the least, delay one business deal, and he could pursue the "glimpsed" version of his life.

After it was all said and done, I felt like I had just watched a pointless exercise in story telling.
