K-19 The Widowmaker Release Year: 2002 Average Rating: Last Reviewed On: December 30, 2002 (by Scott) (DVD version) Scott's Review: on December 30, 2002 K-19 tells the story of Russia's first nuclear powered submarine. It's has all of the elements you would expect in a submarine movie, such as the reactor scene, the crumbling exterior, and the dysfunctional crew ready to mutiny, it really does manage to be an interesting tale of its own. Perhaps it's likeable because it's based on a true story with some good cinematography. While I haven't seen some of the other recent submarine movies like Das Boot, at least compared to The Hunt for the Red October, this movie holds it's own, and provides an interested tale that hasn't been often told from the Cold War. -- Scott and Michelle |
