Insomnia got a lot of good reviews. It was billed as a beautiful movie that probes into the human psyche and explores what happens when we're robbed of sleep and forced to deal with life changing struggles.

I don't think I saw the same movie. It was indeed a beautiful movie. The backdrop of Alaska is almost always a breathtaking scene. The actors did a decent enough job of portraying their characters. Robin Williams managed to pull of an especially eerie bad guy. Al Pacino, on the other hand, just annoyed me. I probably missed the interested deconstruction of his character, but it just felt like a silly "find the gun" escapade that you would see in any number of cop-n-robber movies.

Unlike Memento, this movie never really caught me and suspended my disbelief. I just had trouble believing I was watching real people struggle through life, and not just some really good actors. Pity too, it was a beautifully shot movie.
