One Hour Photo Release Year: 2002 Average Rating: Last Reviewed On: October 1, 2002 (by Scott) Scott's Review: on October 1, 2002 It's a tough thing for me to say I didn't like this movie. The cinematography was well done. The score was pleasant sounding enough. The support cast did a good job. And, Robin Williams did an incredible job, pulling off the character of Seymour Parrish perfectly. Why then didn't I like the movie? I'm not sure I can nail down one reason. Perhaps it's because I don't like this genre. It's disturbing, similar to Clockwork Orange. Actually, it felt very much like a Kubrick film. I don't think that's it though. I think I just had problems with the resolution to the movie, and the general pace. It was too slow for my tastes. You see, I really liked 2001, which many people call the slowest movie of all time. There's a big difference to me though. 2001 managed to be engaging throughout the entire movie. When I look back at One Hour Photo, I remember normal paced scenes involving the story, and excruciatingly slow scenes giving the Kubrick-ish feel to the movie. It's almost like the director was trying to average out the two. For me at least, it left a movie that was only disturbing, and not engaging or interesting. Negative comments aside, I would suggest you consider watching this movie. If it clicks with you and engages you, I can easily see this being a great movie. If it doesn't click with you, at least you'll consider buying a digital camera. -- Scott and Michelle |
