This movie reminds me quite a lot of "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington". The plot is very different, but the basic feeling is there. Trying to make you believe in Small-Town America's attempt to heal and overcome the greed and corruption of Government. For me at least, unlike Capra's picture, this is believable. It's understandable though, why it did so poorly with critics. I can see that to people inside Hollywood, or at least involved with it, the black-list sub-plot would be hard to swallow, much like I have trouble with the cheesy computer scenes in hacking movies.

That aside, this flick does show how Jim Carrey is really an incredible actor when he's not reduced to rude jokes for comedic value. From that angle, it's an enjoyable movie. And if you're willing to suspend your disbelief about half of the required level to enough to enjoy movies such as "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" or "It's a Wonderful Life", then I'm sure you'll enjoy this one as much as I did.
