This is an interesting read. Unfortunately, it's terribly boring at times. And it's very outdated. Written around 1990, with an updated chapter written three years later, it suffers from the dramatic changes in the computer industry.

More than that, though, it chronicles some interesting political issues, but drags on, and can be difficult to follow. The ultimate example of how boring this book can get to me, is when Sterling includes a several page telephone document, just to demonstrate how boring and arcane it is.

The history of the politics surrounding the computer industry and hacking are interesting to read about, but muddling through this book almost wasn't worth it.
