This was one of the most compelling books I've read in a long time. It's goes into a bit more detail on the "Games" than I would generally have liked, but that aside, it's difficult to stop reading this book.

The story is basically about a future society, involved in a galactic war. There are some details on the future sciences, but not much, which makes it all the more compelling. The story doesn't get caught up in techonobabble, but deals with human emotions and reactions to war. The vantage point of a child being forced into the middle of all of this is even more compelling.

I highly recommend this book.
