In a futuristic society, where everyone lives underground, and is controlled by drugs, THX 1138 seeks more in life, and tries to escape.

That's the basic plot, anyway. This is an interesting story. It's George Lucas' first film, much of what's in this movie made it's way into other movies, so from that angle it's very interesting to watch.

Though, I'm hard pressed to say it's interesting to watch from a normal perspective. The movie is shot like many '70 movies where, very abstractly, where you're constantly guessing most things that are happening. Granted, you can figure out the movie's basic plot, but these sort of movies always bother me, because undoubtedly I'm missing a lot, even if it's not important, of what the writer was trying to get across.

In the end, it's an interesting movie to watch because it was made by one of the greats before he was great, but otherwise, I feel it will not be remembered as one of the greats itself.

I don't understand movies liek this. I'm sure it's a fine movie for it's time, and i'm sure someone allot smarter then me can really enjoy it, but I kept wondering what was going on for the first hour of the thing. It's just too surreal for me, too white, and vague. I like dialog in a movie, Even Rambo talked more then they do in this movie. But, it is one of those movies you have to see, because after all, so many things associated with this has become famous for other reasons. the THX for example, is well, you know, THX.... and of course the droid in Star Wars that has THX 1138 imprinted in his body, and such things... so I guess we had to watch it, although i'm hoping i'll never have to again. Might be nice to see a remake of it though, the basic storyline wasn't so bad, it just needs to be updated, and not so surreal as it is here. Then maybe I'll be able to enjoy it more.
