I felt that this movie shared a lot in common with "The Talented Mr. Ripley." In both movies, I felt there really wasn't much of a plot to hold the picture together, but rather we just happen to jump into someone's life at a mildly interesting period.

This story is basically about a man who's in search of something new and unique, so he travels to a tourist trap in Thailand. Once in Thailand, he hears stories of a perfect beach, and must investigate, taking along two French people for no apparent reason.

Needless to say, I didn't enjoy the picture. I felt it had no real story line, or if there was one, I simply missed it. It was interesting to see Leonardo DiCaprio in such a challenging role, but that wasn't enough to make the movie interesting to me.

Personally I found this movie somewhat boring. I have yet to see Leonardo Dicaprio do anything worthy since Titanic. And even then, I think his best work was in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. There's no doubt he can act, but you'd never know just how great an actor he is judging by the parts he's taken lately. The Beach was just a bizarre movie. I don't care how you slice it. I found the story ify at best, and the concept reminded me of Lord of the Flies. There were moments in the movie that were almost cartoony that happened about anytime the movie began to take itself too seriously, I liked that aspect to it. While it was really just kind of weird, and didn't really belong, I give it credit for doing something out of the ordinary like that. I love movies that break the rules a bit. Probably why i'm such a big fan of movies by Johnny Depp, and Tim Burton, but, sadly, The Beach doesn't do it enough to make it enjoyable for me. In the end it just ends up being a boring movie that truth be told, I probably only was able to stay awake though because we watched it on a sunny afternoon mid-summer with all the blinds open.
