Van Halen: Women and Children First Artist: Van Halen Average Rating: Last Reviewed On: July 5, 2000 (by Michelle) Michelle's Review: on July 5, 2000 I have to say, this is not my favorite Van Halen album. There is some astounding guitar playing on here, but I just never got into it like I did the first two albums (or any of the others since). I can't really explain why. Maybe it was just because it was so different then the first 2 albums before it, but then that's actually a good thing. The line, "Have you seen junior's grades?" from "Everybody Wants Some" I thought for many years was "Have you seen junior's grave?" And of coruse I felt like an idiot when I found out I had been singing it wrong, but then, who cares, and who hasn't messed up a lyric or two in their lifetime? ;-) While this album isn't among my top fav VH albums, it does have one of my all time fav VH songs, "Take Your Whiskey Home". If you can listen to the beginning acoustic intro of that song and tell me that that isn't some of the coolest playing on any rock and roll record, then you're just plain nuts. -- Scott and Michelle |
