After watching the movie, I wanted to read the book to see if some of the sub-plots were better explained in the book. To my surprise, they weren't, because they weren't in the book at all. The book was rather well done, and if I can set aside my one quibble with it (how can people afford that many plane trips), it's a very good read. There are some rather major differences from the movie, but overall the story holds true. And, in my opinion, the book makes a good deal more sense. It seems in the movie Garrett is never really to let his past life go, and the death at the end is just a convenient way to end the relationship. In to book, Garrett finally let's go of his wife, and is willing to move on when fate plays its interesting role. It's a good read, and I'll admit that the ending brought a tear to my eye.
