City of Darkness is basically a tale of the future where racism was taken to an extreme. The major cities have been closed off; a few have been domed and are tourist traps during summer each year. We join up with a teenager, whose father takes him to New York for a summer vacation. The book goes on to show how the city can transform this teenager into an adult faster than he alone is able. I felt the book ended on an odd note. It seems bizarre to me that the cities could be open only for a few months out of each year, and these tourists would actually be interested in working in the cities. Especially, since at one point the book suggests you're not allowed to stay in the city for more than a couple of weeks. Basically, I just couldn't find the premise of the book believable. That and I felt the audio reading of the book was over acted.
