Well, in this book, we finally learn more about who the "unclean" are. And we learn everything that you ever wanted to know about stasis fields. One of the main plots of this book is the unclean eat other people, and assimilate them (though, somehow no mention of the Borg is ever made). Even after someone is eaten, digested, and assimilated, we can still talk to them without any problems by hooking up what's left of their brain to a computer. That, and if you use a stasis field it helps. This book fell into the Star Trek techno babble trap too often for me to really enjoy it. And given that I'm a rather big Star Trek fan, that's got to be saying quite a bit. I had suffered through the last book in the hopes that it would serve as a good bridge, but after reading this book, I'm not sure I wanted to cross that bridge. Perhaps the final book will turn out better.
